The new season is almost upon us and what better way to get prepared for the 2026 campaign than recapping all the items you’ll want to pay close attention to this year.
From brand new venues to history-making moments, there’s action everywhere you look in FIA Formula 2 this year.
Here’s a rundown of the top items to watch out for from Melbourne to Yas Marina.
The Madring hosts it’s very first race weekend in 2026 and the prospect of an action-filled weekend beckons.
The Spanish capital is a great venue for a race, with the promise of an ultra-fast semi-permanent street circuit providing us with all the usual thrills and spills seen in F2. Who will master the Madrid streets for the very first time and make their own bit of history as Formula 2’s very first winner there?
No team has ever taken three consecutive Teams’ Championship titles in Formula 2. PREMA Racing have come closest, earning top honours in 2020 and 2021, but their tally of two was equalled last year by Invicta Racing, who earned their second-consecutive title.
The Norfolk-based squad will be doubly motivated then to not only become the first ever F2 outfit to achieve three Teams’ Championships, but to do so in consecutive seasons. Now that would be quite something.
Remaining with Invicta, they welcome reigning FIA Formula 3 Champion Rafael Câmara into the fold, and the Brazilian follows an established line of success before him.
Compatriot Gabriel Bortoleto was the first to make their mark in TRIDENT colours in Formula 3 and win the title, before graduating to F2 with Invicta racing and earning the Championship in what was his rookie season back in 2024.
Leonardo Fornaroli followed the blueprint in 2025, treading the same path as Bortoleto en route to the F2 crown, and now Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy talent Câmara hopes to emulate them both in 2026.
For the eighth year, Chasing the Dream cameras will be capturing the action from start to finish, taking the curtain back and letting you behind-the-scenes of the world that is Formula 2.
Get closer to the action on the penultimate step on the single seater racing ladder before Formula 1 as drivers endure and experience the soaring highs and crushing lows that go into a racing season.
You can catch every episode in the week following a race weekend.
Having raced in the U.S. for the majority of his racing career, Colton Herta makes the switch to single seaters in Europe in what is a huge change for him.
The American joins Hitech for 2026, and based on the evidence of pre-season testing, is quickly settling into life in Formula 2. The former IndyCar driver has already been named Cadillac F1 Reserve Driver, and so will be aiming to impress in his rookie F2 campaign. There will be no shortage in interest to see how he fares this season.
There are plenty of other new faces too alongside Câmara and Herta who will be competing in their maiden Formula 2 seasons in 2026.
Roman Bilinski, Nikola Tsolov, Noel León, Nico Varrone, Emerson Fittipaldi, Laurens van Hoepen, Martinius Stenshorne, Mari Boya and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak make up the rookie class of 2026. Each driver will be striving to make their names known this season as F2 race winners.
2026 marks a huge milestone for Formula 2, as the Championship enters its 10th year of existence. Since that inaugural 2017 campaign, 22 drivers have passed through the Formula 2 ranks en route to F1, and that number promises to grow in the next decade also.
Join us this season as we celebrate all the memorable moments, exciting races and triumphs from the very start, and get ready for the future too, as they’re likely racing on the F2 grid based on the past 10 seasons of action.
Whether it be the all-time wins record currently set at eight, the F2 pole positions record also sitting at eight, the records written into the books at the moment are there to be broken. PREMA Racing’s incredible 44 F2 race victory total stands testament to their success in the Teams’ rankings.
One number will matter more than any other though to the drivers, as they race to become the 10th FIA Formula 2 Drivers’ Champion come the end of this season.
