Following today’s FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at the Baku City Circuit, two drivers were penalised.
First, it was found that Luca Ghiotto had made contact with Sérgio Sette Câmara at the restart of a late Safety Car period which sent the Brazilian into a spin and into the pit wall down the main straight. This led to the DAMS driver having to retire from the race. It was determined that Ghiotto had failed to maintain position behind Sette Câmara prior to the restart.
Five seconds were added to the total race time of the Italian driver who had classified P6. This penalty drops him to ninth and promotes Sean Gelael to sixth, Juan Manuel Correa to seventh and Nikita Mazepin to eighth and thus reverse pole for tomorrow’s Sprint Race.
Furthermore, Dorian Boccolacci was handed a 2 place grid drop for Sunday’s Baku race when it was found that he had failed to enter the pitlane at the end of the Feature Race as instructed by the Race Director. The French rookie from Campos finished fifth and is the highest classified rookie, scoring his first F2 points. He will start tomorrow’s race in 6.
