Jack Doohan and Virtuosi Racing were back on song and hit the ground running after the summer break. The Australian stamped his authority on the Spa-Francorchamps weekend, scoring a podium in the Sprint Race before going one better on Sunday to win the Feature Race.

We handed Guest Column duties over to Doohan for him to give his thoughts on how the weekend unfolded, what he did well and his feelings heading into Zandvoort at the weekend.

GOOD POINT – FIRST FEATURE RACE WIN

“There’s two good points. Finishing both races on the podium was really good as well as getting my first Feature Race win. Obviously I had two Sprint Race victories but I really wanted that Feature Race win. We came super close in round one in Bahrain, then round two in Barcelona, so it’s been coming and I’m super glad to get it.”

BAD POINT – MISSING OUT ON THE DOUBLE

“Something that I think we could have done better, we could have potentially won both races. That would have been ideal. I think we had the pace to, maybe I could’ve done a bit better in race one and pushed harder earlier on, but I’m still super happy with what we did.”

WHAT I LEARNED – SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS STYLE

“Racing at Spa is a lot different than Qualifying at Spa. Obviously we have to run a lot lower downforce than in Qualifying and you’re targeting different areas, mainly straight line speed which obviously means less downforce, it make sit trickier in the middle sector and it’s quite heavy on deg. Learning when to make the right moves and being patient to wait for DRS and then knowing when it was time to not to get too close in the middle sector so if I had DRS, releasing it halfway up the Kemmel Straight so I didn’t get too close so it didn’t hurt the tyre too much.”

FANS MAY HAVE MISSED – BRING BACK MY BOOT

“I did the shoey after the race on Sunday and my shoey I did at Silverstone, the boot is retired due to smell. This one was my last designed boot for this year so I wanted to bring it back and get it cleaned so I took it up to the Alpine hospitality, put everything in there and had my boot and my trophy and after the race, I went to go and give some passes back and when I came back up, my boot had been stolen, which isn’t ideal. Not really funny, but it’s funny to think that someone would steal it. Quite a weird story.”

NEXT UP - ZANDVOORT

“I’m really looking forward to the weekend, it’s a really cool place, especially being on the beach and being so close to the sea, it provides interesting weather and different conditions. It’s unfortunately not going to be as entertaining races as Spa due to the circuit characteristics, but I’m looking forward to setting a nice Qualifying lap, getting the car hooked up and then focusing on the Feature Race. It should be good.”
