The European leg of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season kicks off this weekend with the paddock making its way to Monte Carlo for Round 4.
The iconic streets of Monaco have produced some incredible moments over the years, and this week promises to be one you will not want to miss.
Before we take to the track, here are a few storylines we think you should keep an eye on this weekend…
The season has started in highly competitive fashion, with five different winners in the opening six races.
Nikola Tsolov – who won the Melbourne Feature Race and the Miami Sprint – is the only multiple-time winner this year.
The Bulgarian has won in Monaco the last two years in Formula 3 and will be keen to do so again this year. However, there are several drivers who will be keen to make history by winning this weekend.
So will we see another repeat winner or this year or will someone else put their name into the 2026 victory circle.
The endings of the last two Feature Races in Monaco have been nothing short of dramatic, with the winners of both essentially being decided on the last lap.
Zak O’Sullivan’s alternate strategy saw him claim victory when he pitted right before the Virtual Safety Car came out.
This left a one-lap shootout with Isack Hadjar for the win, with the Briton having started in P15.
Last year, a late call from Jak Crawford to pit under the Safety Car allowed him to come out ahead of the leaders.
After looking set to finish in P4, the American’s inspired decision earned him the lead and victory in Monaco.
These two races will serve as lessons to the current grid, who will know you are never too far away from winning in Monte Carlo, no matter where you are in the field.
Gabriele Minì heads to Monaco with a 19-point lead in the Championship after a strong start to the year.
The MP Motorsport driver’s consistency has earned him this position, having scored points in each race so far in 2026. In addition to that, Minì won the Miami Feature Race and achieved two more podium results in Montreal.
The rest of the field will be eager to close the gap, but Monaco is a track where the Italian has a great history – winning the Feature Race from pole twice in F3 and finishing second in last year’s Sprint.
Minì will be confident that he can have more success this year, but several of his rivals have a good history of their own in Monte Carlo.
They will be keen to beat Minì this weekend, as while the season is still young and a champion has not been decided, they will not want that gap getting too big.
The last two race weekends in Miami and Montreal have been affected by weather at some stage, so could rain also play a part this weekend.
Currently, the forecast is clear for both Saturday and Sunday, but there is a slight chance of rain early on Friday.
Even if Qualifying is dry, rain on an already green track could mean there is a lack of grip on the racing line. The drivers will be ready for the challenge but on an already tough circuit, it would be another obstacle for them and their teams.
