Paul Aron is 10 rounds into his career in Formula 2 and is already in the middle of a close battle for the Championship. The Hitech Pulse-Eight driver has certainly made a name for himself this year but how much do we know about the Estonian?
Well, we recently spoke to him and found out some interesting details, such as his love for America, his appreciation for actors and why family is the more important than anything.
WHERE DO YOU CONSIDER HOME?
“Well, I've grown up all my life in Estonia, Tallinn the capital, in the same house, so Estonia is home for me.”
OUTSIDE OF MOTORSPORT WHICH ATHLETE DO YOU LOOK UP TO?
“I think my trainer Karl to be honest. I think he really lives life how it should be lived, he is very healthy, he trains a lot, he enjoys training, he enjoys going out in nature and seeing what the world has to offer. I've learned a lot from him, and I really admire how he is able to enjoy life.”

WHO ARE YOU GOOD FRIENDS WITH ON THE GRID?
“I've never felt like a person who is really in the gossip and in the paddock friend group and to be honest this year as well I wouldn't say I've got that many friends. But there are some drivers on the grid that I get along with well, Dino Beganovic is one of them, obviously I raced with him for a long time, Luke Browning, he is part of the Hitech crew, Ollie Bearman I've gotten along with him for a long time, Gabriel Bortoleto I’ve raced with him all my life. I feel like I get along with everyone but I'm not one of those drivers who is constantly walking around the paddock and hanging out with people. When I come here, I like to be on my own.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHEAT MEAL?
“I think a proper cheat meal, there is a burger place in Estonia which I think it’s rated in the top four European burger spots. That burger from that place is worth every calorie. It's called VLND Burger.”
IF YOU COULD RELIVE A MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER WHAT WOULD IT BE?
“I don't know to be honest. Hopefully, there are going to be moments like that coming up in my life. I think that we are still at an early stage in my career and I don't think it's time to look back yet. At this point it's only looking forward and hopefully those moments to look back at will come.”

WHAT WOULD YOU DO AS A JOB IF YOU COULDN’T BE A RACING DRIVER?
“I've thought about this. I think acting would be something really cool. I think that the cool thing about acting is that normally every person lives one life but if you are a good actor and you really focus on the role you're playing, you're kind of living different lives in one lifetime because you take the role of what you're playing so serious that you become that person.
“I have always thought that is a really cool philosophy about acting is that you have a chance to live many different lives according to which role you play. I've always enjoyed surfing, I think surfing would be really cool and definitely if I was American and had those genes, I think playing American football and competing in that kind of sport would be really cool as well.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE OR TV SHOW?
“TV Series, the latest one is The Gentlemen. It was on Netflix, it was a really cool series and I really liked how Guy Richie produced it. It had his style, the way he did it, and I think it was filmed in a really cool way and on top of that the plot and the actors were really good.
“For movies, I'm struggling to answer this because I haven't watched that many movies lately. Fight Club is one of the movies up there, I am sure there are many good ones, but I just haven't been into movies lately, so they are not really coming up on my mind. Oh, Shawshank Redemption is a really cool one.”
WHAT IS THE LAST SONG THAT YOU LISTENED TO
“I can check right now. The last song I listened to was Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day.”
WHAT’S THE FUNNIEST/MOST EMBARASSING THING YOU’VE DONE?
“That's a hard question because I've caused some chaos when I was at school which was definitely funny. Embarrassing things, even if I could remember I wouldn't say it.”

IF YOU COULD RELIVE A MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER WHAT WOULD IT BE?
“To be honest I enjoy racing as a whole, so I don't think it's fair to narrow it down to one memory. I think every win is special, every podium is special and I've really enjoyed this year with this team and I think spending time with them is special. Winning the European Championship in karting was special so I wouldn't draw it down to one moment. I think I've enjoyed the lifestyle and the paddock life overall and that's why I think the journey of racing has been the most enjoyable part of my career.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST TREASURED POSSESSION?
“My family. If anyone else answers that question differently, it's the wrong answer. Family is the only thing you have in life and I know that when my brother is managing me that he only cares about what's best for me and that's what my mum and dad have done. So, when things hit the fan, you know that family are always people that do their best to take care of you.”
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
“To be honest, I feel like always getting advice is one thing but figuring out that advice yourself is really what helps you so it's hard to say. I think it's the easiest thing but you're doing racing for yourself in the end, you're not doing for anyone else, and if you are doing for anyone else you are doing racing for the wrong reasons. Sometimes we forget that because there are so many people in a team and there is so much going on outside of racing that sometimes you forget that you are doing it for yourself and the only point in being here is to enjoy it because what's the point of doing something as your career or your life if you are not enjoying it and you're not even doing it for yourself.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE YOU’VE EVER BEEN TO AND ONE YOU’VE NEVER BEEN TO THAT YOU’D LIKE TO VISIT?
“The more time I spend away from home, the more I enjoy going back, back to Estonia seeing my family and my friends but trips wise I think Melbourne is up there, to be honest I really like Australia, I think Melbourne is one of the most liveable cities I've travelled to and I have always enjoyed the race there and always enjoyed my time there and it's probably one of my favourite holiday spots. A place I'd like to go, because I've seen so many American movies, I've always wanted to go to the US, I've been there once when I was quite young but I would like to go and see California, LA, have a trip to Miami and see those places because in the movies you always see Hollywood and all these cool places in America and growing up all the movies about high school and stuff like that. I feel like maybe I have been a bit brainwashed, but definitely would like to go spend some more time in the US.”
