2018 Round 4 Sprint Race penalties

Following today’s FIA Formula 2 Championship Sprint Race at Monte Carlo, Monaco, both Antonio Fuoco of Charouz Racing System and Lando Norris of Carlin were found to be in breach of the virtual safety regulations as directed by the Sporting Regulations. Both drivers had failed to meet the minimum time once the FIA light panels had become green at the end of the virtual safety car, and as such the drivers’ gain in time was applied to their final finishing time.
Fuoco was deducted 0.8 seconds, allowing him to keep his win, but Norris drops behind Louis Delétraz having had 1.1 seconds added to his time. This means newcomers Charouz Racing System leave Monte Carlo with a one-two result.
Furthermore, it was adjudged that Roberto Merhi had overtaken Arjun Maini under the safety car in the final stages of the race. As a result, the MP Motorsport driver was provided with a five-second time penalty, relegating him to seventh place behind Maini and Maximilian Günther.
Finally, Santino Ferrucci was also provided with a ten-second time penalty having carried out clutch bite point checks in the pitlane, failing to comply with instructions from the race director. This however does not change the American driver’s final classification, and he remains 12th . With all penalties applied, Norris keeps the lead in the Drivers’ Championship, now with a total of 98 points.
