Interview
Invicta Racing won the Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships for the second season in a row, and while their Team Principal James Robinson is delighted with the outcome, he admits their 2025 exceeded their expectations.
The British team followed in the footsteps of PREMA Racing by becoming the second team to win back-to-back Teams’ and Drivers’ titles in Formula 2, achieving five victories and 14 podiums.
Leonardo Fornaroli claimed the Championship with a round to spare, helping Invicta beat Hitech TGR and Campos Racing in Abu Dhabi to the Teams’ crown.

Speaking at post-season testing at Yas Marina, Robinson says while he knew they would be in the mix for the title, they did not predict the outcome of the 2025 campaign.
“It could not have gone any better,” said Robinson. “We weren't expecting to be Champions at the end of the year. I remember doing an interview on the global feed at the start of the year and I was asked about our expectations, and I was very conscious not to be too bullish.
“One, not to put too much pressure on the drivers, especially Leo, who was following in the footsteps of Gabi, and we did not want him to feel like he had to emulate Gabi, who is such a class act.
“Honestly, we knew it was a really strong field this year, we had drivers like Verschoor, Crawford and Martins, who had been in this Championship for a long time and won loads races.
“We also had some brilliant teams like Campos, Hitech, PREMA, DAMS and many others, and with the Championship, we thought it was possible, but we didn't think of ourselves as favourites. We thought we would be there or there abouts, so the whole year exceeded expectations.”

Looking at the year in total, Robinson says that despite winning both titles, Invicta still feel like they have a specific weakness that needs to be addressed moving forward.
“We started the year with promise, the pole for Leo in Bahrain was a highlight, but we had a lot to do on race pace,” he continued. “Even at the end of the year, we didn't finish the year fastest on race pace by any means, but Qualifying pace was always phenomenally strong for both cars.
“That middle point of the season, Leo got that Sprint win and just went from strength to strength. Roman, his race pace and management really improved as well, and the middle part of the season, his tyre management really improved.
“He was able to convert those good Qualifying performances into great results. That was really what gave us the advantage to see out the year. A couple of really good Qualifying performances in Qatar and here in Abu Dhabi was really the backbone to wrapping up the Championship.”
Robinson was speaking while his two new drivers Rafael Câmara and Joshua Duerksen got to work with their new team at testing.
MP Motorsport 2025 Season Review: Positives without prizes
The Invicta boss says he and the team have already had conversations about how they approach next year, insisting their previous title success will play no part in the 2026 season.
“We will try and do the same again, just like we did last year,” said Robinson. “The key things we've said internally, absolutely by no means are we going to be complacent.
“2025, 2024, that doesn't matter anymore. It's a shame because it only happened days ago, we haven't had enough time to enjoy or to really let it sink it, maybe we will around Christmas and the new year period, the holiday period.
“But for now we need to forget about that, press the reset button and get on with the job in hand. Fortunately, we have a lot of guys here with a lot of experience, and they can draw on that.

“They know what the processes are, and we take this test like we would do any test, like we did last year and the year before that.
“But obviously we are always asking ourselves how we can improve, how can we do things better, how can we improve our processes, improve the way we go about doing things. So it's a constant evolution and it's something we make sure we never forget to do.”
